The war that almost destroyed the galaxy as we know it and used up all of it's natural resources is finally over. A small fleet of ships was sent out into deep space to try and source more natural resources. When they never return, you are sent out in a MF-92GX Halbard fighter to investigate what happened to them.
Their last transmission was a warning that the enemy had created one last experimental weapon: a combination of the instinct of a living creature and the efficiency of a mchine. These creations are called BioMetal.
Your cutting edge fighter is equipped with an experimental <em>Gel Analog Mutant Weapon</em>. BioMetal is very similar in gameplay to R-Type (side scrolling shooter) and in this respect so is this Gel technology. It can be charged up and unleashed on enemies but can also be used as a kind of force-field. In addition, you also have rockets and various other power ups you can collect along the way.
